Military Honors

Who is eligible to receive honors?

The rendering of military honors for United States Armed Forces veterans is a tribute our veterans and families justly deserve. Section 578 of the National Defense Authorization Act for FY2000 requires the Department of Defense to provide, upon request, Military Funeral Honors for eligible veterans.
Any person (Active, Guard or Reserve) who has completed at least one enlistment or other obligated military service (officer), and received an honorable discharge, is eligible for military honors.
Military funeral honors may not be furnished for any individual convicted of a capital offense, under federal or state law, for which the person was sentenced to death or life without parole.

Our staff will coordinate the procurement of military honors.

What documentation is required?

Active or Reserve components: Form DD214
National Guard: NGB 22
or Certificate of Honorable Discharge

Variations of Military Honors

Basic Honors

Designated for eligible deceased veterans. Ceremony may consist of three personnel to conduct military flag folding, presentation of the flag to next of kin, and sounding of Taps.

Ceremonial Rifle Volley and/or Pall Bearer Honors

Designated for eligible deceased retired service members and active duty service member not killed in action. Ceremony may consist of seven personnel to conduct basic honors, rifle volley and/or pall bearers.

Full Honors

Designated for a service member killed in action, Medal of Honor recipient, a General officer, and an E-9. Ceremony may consist of twenty-one personnel to conduct basic honors, rifle volley and/or pall bearers, color guard and chaplain.

THERE IS NO COST FOR MILITARY HONORS.

Please note: In order to meet the increasing demand for military honors, honors may be provided by partner Veteran Service Organizations, such as local American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars honor guard units.
